Only in the last few years cyanobacteria have been recognised as a potent source for numerous bioactive natural products. To date about 800 natural products of cyanobacteria are known, among which are pharmacologically interesting natural products, e.g. cytotoxic, antifungal, antibacterial, immunosuppressive and cardioactive compounds. In Drug Discovery Cyanobacteria are a new source for the pharma industry. Cyano Biotech screens cyanobacteria for novel natural products with pharmacological activity.
