Generation of novel „unnatural“ natural products

Precursor feeding
By means of PCR we identify strains carrying novel biosynthetic gene clusters to be used in our approach of precursor feeding. This significantly increases the already enormous diversity of cyanobacterial natural products even further. The strategy is based on a change of substrate availability for the biosynthetic machinery.

Combinatorial biosynthesis
Our novel biocombinatorial technology allows for the optimisation of biological activities of cyanobacterial natural products. Our strategy largely circumvents problems associated with conventional combinatorial approaches.
